State of Art Eye Exams
At Advanced Vision Care we utilize the latest technology to accurately determine your eyeglass or contact lens prescription, and the ocular health status of your eyes.  Your exam starts in our Pre-testing Room.

Pre-Testing RoomThe Nidek OPD pictured here, measures several important ocular parameters that help determine your eyeglass and contact lens prescription.  It takes a picture of your pupil size in dim and bright light.  It makes a topographical map of your cornea.  It not only estimates your eyeglass prescription, but it also measures what cannot be corrected with eyeglasses, and may be corrected with custom contacts, or custom LASIK.

We will carefully examine your eyes for cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration.  Some of the other equipment we may use is as follows:

Visual Field Tester

Visual Field TesterThis instrument carefully measures the eyes ability to detect light in different areas of your visual field.  After it collects the data, it will statistically compare your data to an internal database to determine if damage to your field of vision has occurred from glaucoma or another disease.  This instrument can detect problems years before you ever knew you had a problem seeing.

Pachymeter

Pachymeter Photo

This instrument uses ultrasound to measure the thickness of your cornea in microns.  We use this for patients who are contemplating LASIK surgery, or patients who may have glaucoma.  Recent studies have shown that patients with thin corneas have a higher risk of glaucoma.

If needed, our doctors can take pictures of your eyes from the front to the back, as seen in this photo.

GDx(tm) - Precise RNFL analysis for glaucoma detection, diagnosis, and management

The GDx by Zeiss is a Scanning Laser that measures the thickness of the nerve fiber layer surrounding the optic nerve.  It provides your doctor with additional information to determine if you are at greater risk for, or if you have glaucoma.  Some studies have determined that some patients may need 40 percent nerve fiber loss before they exhibit a visual field loss.  We obtained this instrument to help diagnose glaucoma in the earlier stage. We believe that earlier diagnosis improves prognosis.

The Optomap™ Retinal Exam
We are pleased to inform you that during your next visit to Advanced Vision Care, you will experience the benefits of the latest technology in eye exams – the Optomap™ Retinal ExamAdvanced Vision Care was the first to bring this technology to Vermont.  The Optomap Scanner will produce the most comprehensive image of your retina, and allow us to perform a more thorough exam than was previously possible.  The result is that we can better prevent or reduce vision loss in our patients with a simple, quick and patient-friendly new exam.

Any routine eye exam should always include a careful look at the retina, which is located at the back of the eye, to screen for abnormalities or disease.  The sensitive tissue that makes up the retina is susceptible to a variety of diseases that can ultimately lead to partial loss of vision or even complete blindness.  Early detection of any retinal abnormality is thus crucial.  Previously, this screening was done by dilating the pupils, a procedure that many patients found uncomfortable, inconvenient and time-consuming. Healthy Retina

The Optomap is made possible by using a new technology – the Panoramic200™ Retinal Imaging System.  The Optomap enables us to see nearly all of your retina.  Furthermore, it eliminates the discomfort and inconvenience associated with pupil dilation.  As a result, you will not experience blurred vision or sensitivity to light following your eye exam.  It is important to note however, that should any abnormalities be detected or if we cannot obtain an acceptable image, dilation may be necessary.

The Optomap exam is simple: at the push of a button, we can generate a computer image of your retina for immediate review.  Experience with this technology has already led to improved disease detection and has possibly prevented vision loss and blindness in several patients.

We will be discussing this revolutionary exam with you further at your next appointment.  Here at Advanced Vision Care, we are dedicated to offering our patients the best eye care possible, and acquiring the tools to help us do so.  We look forward to seeing you during your next visit – and providing the most comprehensive and advanced vision care available.

Vermont’s Contact Lens Specialists
The doctors at Advanced Vision Care are Vermont’s contact lens specialists. We have one of the areas largest selection of contacts, and many patients can be fit the same day.  If you thought contacts were not an option for you, think again.  We fit contacts for patients with astigmatism, even for patients that need bifocals.  You will also find our prices very comparable to 1800contacts, and sometimes much better.

One Day Contacts
Many of the problems associated with contacts are the chemical solutions that are used for storage, and the coatings that form on them.  A One Day Contact is a lens that you wear for one day and throw away, thus eliminating the two biggest problems with contacts.  These lenses are quite affordable for everyday wear or for people who just want something for occasional wear, i.e. sports or going out.  We especially use these lenses for children and those with allergies.  They are available for most corrections, including astigmatism, and bifocals.

Silicone Soft Contacts
These are the next generation of contact lens materials.  They generally allow 5 times the oxygen than previous materials.  Several types allow up to 30 days of continuous wear.  For those who tend to have red or dry eyes with contacts, these maybe the answer for you!  They are also a good alternative to people contemplating laser surgery to correct their vision.

Scout TopographerWave Gas Permeable Contacts
When it comes to custom contact lens fitting we utilize the Wave System. Click here to learn more.

We use the latest materials that allow for better comfort and oxygen permeability.  We start by producing a topographical map of your eye, and design a lens that follows this topography, providing you with a comfortable lens and sharp consistent vision.  We like these lenses for patients with large amounts of astigmatism, those who demand the sharpest vision, or those who need a bifocal.

Wavefront Corneal Molding

If you are contemplating laser surgery because you can’t see well far away, but you see well for reading, think Wavefront Corneal Molding!  Laser surgery works by reshaping the front of they eye, to the proper curve that allows the eye to focus clearly for driving.  Wavefront Corneal Molding is a reversible non-surgical approach to correcting mild to moderate myopia, and astigmatism.  We design a lens using our Wave System that has the curve that your eye needs to see clearly at far.  You would place these lenses on your eye just before bed, and remove them in the morning.  It gently reshapes your eyes while you sleep, so that you see clearly all day, and sometimes for three days.  To maintain the proper shape, the lens, which acts like a retainer, needs to be worn from every night to every third night.  Call our office for a free evaluation, to see if you are a candidate.
